Vapor Cone

A "vapor cone" appears as this F-15C approaches the sound barrier. The phenomenon is also called a "shock collar", or "shock egg" It's thought to be created by what's called a Prandtl–Glauert singularity. Photo Copyright 2005 Robert Giordano.
